As the entire world knows, Star Wars episode VIII hits theaters this weekend, and we’re doing our best not to freak out! If you’re planning to get to the theaters early to snag a great spot in line, it may be a good idea to bring some snacks along with you! Well we’ve got you covered with these super simple Star Wars treat ideas to take with you to the premier!
- Mini Nilla Wafers
- White, orange, and black candy melts
- Cake Pop sticks
- Piping bag
Step 1: Cut the bottoms off of your Nilla wafers. You’re going to need 2 wafers per pop.
Step 2: Melt some of your white candy melts. Then carefully take your Oreo apart and slide the stick into the middle of the stuffing. Make sure to leave some of the stick sticking out the top of the Oreo. Next, put a layer of the melted candy onto the Oreo to secure the sandwich back together; use enough to connect the pieces well! Then add more candy melt on the tip of the stick and attach 2 nilla wafers, one on each side of the stick. Let these set before moving on. To speed up the process, we put them into the refrigerator to let them chill faster.
TIp: We bought the regular Oreos and found that the stick was difficult to set in the filling. We think a double-stuffed Oreo would work better.
Step 3: Once the pops have chilled for about 5-10 minutes, melt the rest of your white candy melts and then carefully dip each pop into the white candy melts. Make sure the entire pop is coated, then gently tap the cake pop stick on the side of your dish to smooth out the candy melt, scrape the excess off of the bottom, and set it aside.
Step 4: Mix some of the leftover melted white candy with a couple of black melts to get gray (add a little at a time until you get the desired grey). Put this melted mixture into a small piping bag with a small tip. Draw a small, slightly curved line at the top of BB8’s “head.” Then, melt some black candy melts, put the black in a piping bag, and draw 2 dots on BB8’s “head” as well, one larger than the other.
Tip: We discovered that it was actually easier to do these designs without the piping tip as we didn’t have one small enough. With just the piping bag, we were able to cut the tip of the bag small enough to make it much easier to control.
Step 5: Melt your orange candy melts and with the piping bag, put stripes on the “head,” and put the 3 half circle designs around the body. Then, let it chill in the refrigerator until fully set.
- Red, Blue, Green, Black, and White Candy Melts
- Pretzel “Rods”
- Piping bag
- Smallest Round Piping Tip you have
Step 1: Melt your red, blue, and green candy melts. We recommend using a tall, narrow glass. Then, dip your pretzel rods in the candy melts. Let the excess candy melt drip off and smooth off any excess from the bottom on the rim of your glass. Let cool in the refrigerator until set.
Step 2: Melt your black and white candy melts to make gray once again. Then, dip the non-coated side of the pretzel rods into the gray. Let these set.
Step 3: Put some black candy melts in a piping bag and add stripes to the light saber’s “details.”
R2D2 Muddy Buddies
- 1 12oz box of Chex cereal (12 cups)
- 2 cups of chocolate chips
- ½ cup of butter
- 1 cup of peanut butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- Light blue, dark blue, black, and white candy melts
- Any other mixing you prefer (options: blue m&ms, blue/gray sixlets, mini marshmallows, mini chocolate chips, or mini pretzels).
Step 1: Add the chocolate chips, butter, and peanut butter into a microwave safe bowl. Microwave for approximately 60 seconds; then stir until smooth. Once the mixture is smooth, mix in the vanilla extract.
Step 2: Pour the cereal into a large bowl. Then, pour the chocolate mixture over the cereal. Mix until the cereal is well coated, being careful not to crush the cereal too much.
Step 3: Put about 3 cups of powdered sugar into a large bag (we used a 1 gallon ziploc bag); pour in the coated cereal. Add the rest of the powdered sugar. Seal and shake! If needed, break up any large clumps of cereal, add more powdered sugar, and shake more until you’ve reached the desired powder coating.
Step 4: Spread the mixture out on a lined cookie sheet. Then use whatever leftover grey and blue melts you have from the previous recipes to drizzle candy over the muddy buddies. Let this chill in the refrigerator until the candy coating is solid.
Step 5: Mix in your other accoutrements (marshmallows, chocolate chips, m&ms, sixlets etc) in blue, grey, or white colors to achieve the R2D2 aesthetic.
Step 1: Add a heaping cup of R2D2 muddy buddy mix into the bag. Then add 1-2 lightsaber pretzels and the BB-8 pops to your bag!
Tip: Make sure that your bags are big enough to accommodate the lightsaber pretzels! Ours ended up being too small. Larger, candy apple bags would be ideal.
Step 2: Tie off your bags, take them with you to Star Wars Episode VIII and enjoy! Also, no spoilers!!
