Star Wars Inspired Gingerbread Wookiees!

With all of the excitement about Star Wars: The Last Jedi coming out, I thought it was time to bust out a family favorite and show you guys how to make some amazingly nerdy cookies for your holiday party! No, it’s not gingerbread cookies, it’s Gingerbread Wookiees! Let us craft!!

What you’ll need:

  • Gingerbread cookie mix
  • A fork
  • Gingerbread man cookie cutter
  • Black icing
  • White icing

Step One:

First things first, we need to make the batter for the cookies. You’re just gonna follow the directions on the bag or box. Simple stuff. Make sure to preheat the oven!

Step Two:

Time to make the men. First, sprinkle your surface with a little flour to make for easier cutting. Then take a small ball of dough and flatten with your fingers (or a rolling pin, if you’re fancy).

Step Three:

Once the dough is the thickness you want, place the cookie cutter and cut out your shape and remove the excess dough. I know, complicated stuff. My mommy gave me this tip; use a parchment paper or foil to cut out the shapes on, then transfer the foil or paper onto the baking sheet! That way you won’t have to peel or move the cookies after they’re cut out! Brilliant!

Step Four:

Once the shapes are all cut out, it’s time to make the “hair” for the wookiee. Take your fork and hold it so the prongs are facing toward you. Make small marks with the fork until you’re happy with how hairy your little guy is. I used a plastic fork and broke off two of the prongs so the “hair” was a little sparser.

Step Five:

Time for baking! Please excuse the fact that my oven looks like a set from the next Saw movie, its a hundred years old and I don’t clean it! Check the directions on the bag or box and…do that. It should take about 10 minutes per batch.

Step Six:

Once your cookies are done take them out and let them cool. I got impatient (big surprise) and put a couple in the freezer to help them cool more quickly. Small warning; you may have to go back and redo the hair, if they went away during baking.

Step Seven:

Once cool, start making the belt across his chest. Take your black icing and make a stripe from his shoulder to the opposite leg.

Step Eight:

Put back in the freezer to let the icing harden. Once hard (hehe) start making the rest of the belt. Very carefully start making small strips with the white icing. You can put the cookie back in the freezer, if you want, or…you can just eat it! Can you guess which one I chose?
