Valentine’s Day May be mere hours away but in honor of those who hold us up when we are truly down we thought it was time to celebrate Galentine’s Day! Whether they are you oldest friends or your simply your closest confidants, the ladies in your life can absolutely make life sparkle! The following 10 female friendships show us that the bonds of sisterhood know no distance, age, or profession. Like the great and wise Michelle Obama once said “”We need each other. And all over the world we have to be a team of women and girls who love each other and value each other and cherish one another. Because if we don’t cherish each other, no one else will.”
Ann & Leslie (P&R)
Ann Perkins and Leslie Knope show us that you don’t have to be alike to love each other. These two were almost the exact opposite of each other’s personalities and that’s why they worked so well. Ann taught Leslie how to chill out and go with the flow (as much as Leslie possibly could) and Leslie taught Ann to let her freak flag fly and not care what anyone thought of her.
Taystee and Poussey (OITNB)
If you can get through jail laughing with someone, then you know you’ve found true love. They made us laugh, made us cry, and let each other be vulnerable in a truly harsh environment. Taystee and Poussey truly were the definition of ride or die.
Buffy & Willow (Buffy TVS)
Buffy Summers and Willow Rosenberg were my childhood bff example. Willow was smart and witchy while Buffy was strong in every way. I honestly can’t tell you which one I wanted to be more, but these two together can (and did) save the world.
Cece and Jess (New Girl)
Jess and Cece seem like an unlikely duo, but the more we got to know them the more we saw just how deep their friendship really was. They grew up together through awkward stages and gross boyfriends all the while being honest and open with their sisters from a different mister.
Illana and Abbi (Broad City)
The best thing about Illana and Abbi is that they haven’t been friends for a million years. They met each other only a few years before the show began and give anyone who hasn’t found their hetero-life-mate hope that he or she can be just around the corner. These two kwanes have each other’s backs, entertain themselves in any situation, and love everything about one another…and I mean everything.
Meredith and Christina (Grey’s Anatomy)
Meredith Grey and Cristina Yang gave us the phrase “You are my person.” We’ve all said it to our besties. Meredith and Cristina showed us what true love really is. They were there for each other during their intern year (and beyond), failed marriages, scandals, miscarriages and countless tragedies. They pushed each other to be their best and, even though they had entirely different pictures of what their lives should be like, they supported one another through it all.
Blanche, Rose, Dorothy, and Sophia (The Golden Girls)
Talk about squad goals. I can’t even count how many times my friends and I have daydreamed about the house we’re going to live in together once our husbands all die off. It’s a bit morbid, I’ll admit, but I’m kind of looking forward to it! No matter what men came into their lives these four were there to give love, advice, and plenty of cheesecake.
Daria & Jane (Daria)
Daria and Jane hated everybody but each other; if that isn’t friendship then I don’t know what is. Do you know how many people I’ve become friends with because they hate the same people I hate? It really is the best and fastest way to bond two people together.
Rory & Lorelai (Gilmore Girls)
I know, these two are technically mother and daughter, but they were friends above all else. There truly was nothing that was off-limits between this duo and that includes an enormous amount of carbs.
Tina & Amy (Saturday Night Live)
You can’t talk about #bffgoals without mentioning Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. These two are the very definition of friendship goals. They are two awesomely funny ladies who write funny shit, run their own successful projects, and are nothing but supportive of one another. I’m lucky enough to have more than a couple of Amy Poehler’s to my Tina Fey.
Happy Galentine’s Day, everyone! We hope your day is filled with love, sisterhood, and mimosas!
